Vocal Coach

Sarah

"My students are given all the tools they need to steadily move closer to all their musical goals and aspirations."

Sarah (Vocal coach and singing teacher) grew up in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. At first, there was only one hotel there; later, it became a major tourist destination.

"It was like growing up in a multicultural Petri dish—English, German, American, and Arab; we lived together peacefully, and the diversity was a pure source of enrichment."

All of this has had a very positive influence on her as a person and is also reflected in her own music, which she is currently working on. She is open-minded and a people person, qualities that serve her well in her career as a music educator.

But first, a throwback: How and where did Sarah's journey with music begin?
Singing has always been a part of my life. "It feels like I started singing as soon as I started talking."

She grows up in Egypt, on the Sinai Peninsula. On one side is the Red Sea; on the other, the desert. Sarah lives with her German mother and her Egyptian father in a small residential neighborhood, off the beaten path.

She attends an international school that offers music classes, though these aren't based on a typical curriculum. That doesn't stop Sarah from making music at all. "The music teachers were actually great," Sarah emphasizes. "They supported me with the limited resources they had at their disposal." One of her teachers lets her borrow a violin until she gets one of her own. She taught herself to play the violin at the age of 9.

But the piano becomes even more important. There was a grand piano in the school theater. During breaks, Sarah would sneak over there and play the latest pop songs by Adele, Pink, and Amy Winehouse. Strong women—divas like Whitney Houston—are right up her alley. She accompanies herself on the piano and is already gaining her first fans; the gray-haired man from the school office with thick glasses makes sure Sarah can practice unsupervised and in peace.

"Your voice is the channel connecting your inner world to the outside world. I mean, sure, there's such a thing as a poker face, but there's no such thing as a poker voice."

Emotions are always perceptible through the voice. That is also what makes the voice such a fascinating instrument for Sarah.

"Sure, it's also about technique, and it's incredibly important—but there has to be that spark; you have to feel what you're singing, otherwise no one will believe you."

When she was 15, Sarah moved to Germany. At a local summer concert, she got to see the choir from the school she would later attend up close. The performance was very impressive, and she was determined to attend that school.
It is precisely this choir that becomes part of her musical home, just as the school's own big band does.

"This is where I expanded my horizons beyond pop music and came to love jazz, blues, and soul."

She is currently studying music education. She wants to help those who are interested learn the instrument that best suits them.

"Music education is the perfect combination for me. I get to work with people, which I love, and at the same time do what fulfills me. Music is the language everyone speaks. Music bridges the gap between people."

Singing lessons quickly become a personal, one-on-one experience, which is why Sarah offers you a safe space where you can laugh at your off-key notes, reflect on them, and refine your approach. For Sarah, vocal coaching also means personal growth, because learning to sing builds self-confidence.

"Through music, you learn more than ‘just‘ music."

If even one element is missing, it won't sound right. If tension, stress, or a change in posture gets in the way, you can hear it. Sarah makes it a priority to take everything into account and guide you individually to help you achieve the full sound of your voice.
