Vocal Coach

Mildred

"At the end of the day you should leave your voice lesson thinking – yes, this enriched my day and made me happy."

Mildred (Vocal Coach and Singing Instructor)
Her first performance was at a benefit concert called "Children Make Music for Children." Confident and with her head held high, she sang "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" from the musical *The Lion King*. That was one of her defining moments. She was proud, as she says, to be accompanied on the piano by an older student. It was a spine-tingling moment—and she was just seven years old. Ever since then, Mildred has loved being on stage. By the way, she doesn’t get stage fright at all. Her mother, Frederike, calls her "a little show-off." And that’s probably true—the stage, without a doubt, is her musical home.

"When my grandma bought me a guitar at a flea market when I was six, that's when my love for music began. I couldn't play it, but I loved that guitar. It all started with it."

Her mother is less than thrilled, since the guitar produces nothing but off-key notes—though she plays with great dedication. Frederike gives Mildred and her brother an ultimatum: "Either you take lessons and learn to play the instrument properly, or you stop playing altogether!"

That was just what she was looking for! Mildred enthusiastically agrees to take guitar lessons. Less than a year later, she’s ready to take the plunge: "I’ve always sung, but now I wanted to learn how to do it right—how to express my feelings through singing."

She quickly began singing in various bands, learned to play the piano, and eventually took up the trombone as well. She actually plays in two big bands and an orchestra. She is often heard as the soloist in school choirs. Musically, she is influenced by pop stars such as Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, and later Sam Fender.

"That's what I always appreciated most about my voice teachers—that every lesson enriched my daily life."

Even her high school diploma focuses on music. Encouraged by her longtime music teacher, big band and choir director Martin Hauschild, she also takes a practical singing exam.

Once a musician, always a musician. After a brief stint in marketing, the call of music was so strong that she suddenly applied to the BIMM Institute (formerly The British and Irish Modern Music Institute). She secured a spot in the "Popular Music Performance" program, with a focus on vocals.

"There's nothing worse than a frustrating singing lesson. At the end of the day, you should walk out of the voice lesson and say, "Yes, that enriched my day and made me happy.''

She places great importance on vocal health.
Aspiring singers want to keep their voices in good condition for as long as possible. That’s why Mildred makes sure to pace her singing lessons appropriately. "You shouldn’t rush things, and you certainly shouldn’t overdo it in pursuit of quick success," she says. The goal is to ensure a healthy, melodious voice in the long term, and that’s what she works on with her students.

And let's not forget the extra dose of fun!
