Nina
"Singing can be a lot of fun—that's the approach I take with my students, no matter how old they are.“
Rio de Janeiro 2008: Nina, barely eight years old, sits (Vocal coach and singing teacher) With her mouth agape in the audience, she watched as the musical *The Sound of Music* was performed on stage. She remembers it as if it were yesterday: "I absolutely wanted to be one of those seven children on stage.“
Perhaps the foundations for this were laid as early as her first few months, when her grandmother would lull her to sleep to the sounds of jazz playing on the record player.
So music really is in her blood, which would turn out to be a stroke of luck as she went on to pursue her career.
In short, Nina started dancing at the age of four. Starting at age seven, she began taking piano lessons and took on every musical challenge offered at her school: choir, the school band, the orchestra—and, of course, full of enthusiasm, she seized every opportunity to perform on stage.
"That was just my main focus in life; other than that, I'd hang out with my friends—but music was my main thing.“
So it's hardly surprising that she joined a musical theater company at age 17. She even got her driver's license (B18) so she could drive there on her own as soon as possible.
She landed her first leading role in *High School Musical*, followed by supporting roles in *Hair* and *Saturday Night Fever*.
Inspired by her first singing teacher, Nina says, "If you compare singing to painting, learning to sing—much like using a box of paints when painting—gives you a wide range of possibilities for expressing yourself with your voice.“
In recent years, she has studied elementary music education in Hanover and, after two years, switched to artistic pop singing.
Her own projects include her solo project, Nina Freckels (Freckles), and she sings backing vocals for the Hamburg-based indie-folk band Luna and the Fathers. Her podcast, *Mucker Bude*, explores life as a singer-songwriter and, more broadly, the experiences of women in the music business.
But now let's move on to a (nearly) completely different topic.
"For children, making music and singing in a process-oriented way is something completely natural. Adults must rediscover this approach—singing for the sake of singing.“
With Nina, her students learn how to use their voices in a healthy way for as long as possible. The focus is on becoming aware of and exploring their own voices.
"It gives me immense joy to be able to share music with others, but music also involves preparation—and a whole lot of logistics surrounding a performance.“
And that is exactly where Nina supports her students; she is a very creative and dedicated vocal teacher who always keeps the atmosphere lively. She covers jazz, R&B, musical theater, pop, and soul with ease.
